The presence of small molecular emulsifiers in organosilicon acrylate lotion polymerization will reduce the density, water resistance and physical and mechanical properties of the polymer film, and cause environmental pollution. To solve the above problems, soap free lotion polymerization is adopted, that is, emulsifiers with reactive functional groups or capable of participating in the polymerization reaction are used in the polymerization process, so as to completely eliminate or only use a small amount of emulsifiers in the usual sense (whose concentration is less than the Critical micelle concentration CMC), thus eliminating the negative effects of conventional emulsifiers. The lotion prepared by soap free lotion polymerization has many incomparable advantages over traditional lotion polymerization, such as excellent water resistance, solvent resistance and chemical inertness, so it has attracted much attention in recent years.

The soap free lotion polymerization of water-soluble monomer (such as Methyl methacrylate (MMA)) conforms to the mechanism of "homogeneous precipitation nucleation", that is, the free radical generated by the initiator conducts chain growth reaction with the monomer molecule, and when the free radical chain reaches the critical chain length, self entanglement occurs, and primary particles are precipitated from the water phase. The study on the soap free lotion polymerization of styrene with Potassium persulfate as the initiator proposes "oligomeric micelle nucleation "Mechanism, that is, the oligomer with hydrophilic initiator fragments generated at the initial stage of the reaction has the nature of surfactant, and when the oligomer concentration reaches the corresponding Critical micelle concentration, the oligomer itself micelles to form primary particles. The soap free lotion copolymerization system of styrene MMA was studied, and the influence of the composition of the copolymer monomer on the kinetics and nucleation mechanism of soap free lotion polymerization was discussed, which confirmed that There are two mechanisms involved: homogeneous nucleation and micelle nucleation. It is considered that when the mole fraction of Methyl methacrylate increases, the nucleation mechanism is gradually dominated by homogeneous nucleation mechanism, and on the contrary, it is dominated by oligomeric micelle nucleation, and the concentration of initiator and the composition of polar monomer in the copolymer have a great impact on the stability of soap free lotion.

Silicone modified acrylate copolymerization lotion with different silicone content was synthesized by soap free lotion polymerization of vinyl triethoxysilane, butyl acrylate (BA) and Methyl methacrylate (MMA). The soapless lotion prepared by lotion has excellent water resistance and weather resistance. The emulsifier free lotion copolymerization of siloxane/acrylate was carried out by using reactive surfactant Allyl group 2-thiopropyl tyrosulfonate sodium (NaAPS) and acrylic acid polyphenyl acrylate (PHPA) as the emulsion system. The particle size of the obtained lotion was reduced, and the adhesion and water resistance of the coating film were greatly improved. Similar compound emulsifier can also be obtained by using alkenyl monomer NaAPS and sodium dodecyl sulfonate, which makes the particle size of soap free silicone acrylic copolymer latex smaller, the distribution narrower, the stability of the lotion improved, and the water resistance of the film prepared has also been significantly improved.
